Sci-Fi Room – Modelling

This room started with building the second practice scene during class. The sci-fi scene meant for skills building had a similar vibe to what I intended to create so I quickly decided to adjust and change the scene to be my own.

The room has a similar layout to the practice one. I added in a window to not rely completely on artificial light and make the room look more liveable. The walls are simple with few mirror-like details.

Most everything in the room follow a pattern and run either diagonally or in a straight line.

The floor and the door are inspired by space ships. The floor serves also the purpose of lamps in the room. The floor is a plane and the panels in the middle are separate mesh (cube). The lights are also separate mesh – cylinders.

For the ceiling I tried two versions. The first one was meant to be complicated and full of detail but I realized it doesn’t really fit the rest of the scene design-wise. So, I build a new ceiling.

The ceiling has two light sources, pipes running through to show the mechanical/robust side of the room, and some mirror-like design elements. The pipes are made by using Curve tool, and then extruding the faces of a cylinder. The ceiling plane, details, lamps and pipes are all separate mesh.

There are four furniture pieces in the room: Tv, Sofa, Table and Shelving Unit.

The furniture is clean and simple and futuristic. The assets are modelled using edge loops and soft selection.
